I will show you how to improve your photos with three, simple steps that you can implement right away. There are many aspects that go into taking photos. You have to think about what your final product is going to look like for the people viewing your photos. Try to think in their point of view and figure out what your audience wants to see. Below, I will show you three ways to make this way easier and make your photos look awesome. I will be inserting raw unedited photos to show you that editing does not always guarantee that you will get a good final result.
1. Angle
Angle is essential to creating an awesome photo. The secret to get good angles to your photos is to try to visualize a common item in a way that nobody else would visualize it in. For example, I took a photo from Palani in Tamil Nadu, waiting to go back down in the rail car. The angle gives the feeling of height and dimension. This is an angle that a viewer would not expect, and that subsequently appeals to the viewer.
Here is another example from the Qasr al Watan. A normal viewer would expect a straightforward shot of the building and its surroundings. However, I decided to get creative and create a different angle of the building. This angle, blending with the perfect sun position, created an amazing shot.
2. Perspective
Perspective is very different from angle. Perspective gives viewers a point of view. A simple way to create point of view is to zoom out, or take a step back, so that people can see the surroundings of your shot. Sometimes, it would improve a photo if you stretch your hand out onto the screen, like you are holding something. For example, I took a photo of the wing of an airplane, but instead of showing just the outside, I took a step back and showed the edges of the window I was shooting out of.
Another instance of perspective was when we traveled to the top of the Burj Khalifa. I decided to climb the stairs connecting the 126th to the 127th floor, and while I did that, I made sure to take a photo of the spiraling stairs along with the cityscape outside.
3. Creativity
This is one of the most essential tips to start implementing right away to improve your photos. Be creative with your photos and make sure to shoot differently from others. This is what makes you stand out from other photographers. Shoot it in a different way, or set up your shot in a way that is appealing and new to your audience. Below I took a photo of the side mirror of a car during a sunset. This photo demonstrates the importance of creativity and shows that there are multiple ways to take amazing photos; you just have to find out which one is the best!
So these are my tips on creating better photos. I am planning on making a future post on improving your photo with editing, so stay tuned for that! Thanks for reading!
